Dr. Shaening received her Ph.D. in Research and Statistical Methods from the University of Northern Colorado. She received her Masters and Bachelors degrees in philosophy from the University of Michigan. Dr. Shaening is President of Shaening and Associates, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in public sector organization and system development, program planning, and research and evaluation. Dr. Shaening has been providing services to State and local government entities, philanthropic foundations, and non-profit health and human services organizations since 1977. Dr. Shaening directs all contracts for Shaening and Associates, Inc. Dr. Shaening has taught undergraduate and graduate classes in evaluation, research methods, statistics, sampling, and measurement for several universities.
Dr. Shaening has a long history of community volunteerism and is currently the President of the Board of Project Access of the Santa Fe County Medical Society assisting uninsured individuals to gain access to health care through a network of donated services from the hospital and over 70 private physicians (http://www.sfaccess.org/). Dr. Shaening is also Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Global Education Fund with a dual mission of assisting people of poverty in the developing world (currently in Nicaragua and Burma) as well as supporting older youth in foster care in New Mexico (http://www.globaledfund.org). Dr. Shaening frequently provides pro bono facilitation and strategic planning services to New Mexico Not-for-Profit organizations.
Dr. Shaening is a 2007 recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Women in New Mexico. She was also awarded Volunteer of the Year by the Santa Fe Alliance for Locally Owned and Independent Business In 1998, she received the prestigious Woman Who Makes a Difference award from the International Woman’s Forum. Dr. Shaening is married to the artist Ron Pokrasso; they have two perfect sons and one perfect daughter-in-law.
